GDM was present at the BCR Agtech Forum

Ignacio Bartolomé, CEO of GDM, was one of the 25 speakers at the summit that brings together leaders of national and international agricultural innovation, held at the Rosario Stock Exchange. ‘In gene editing I see an opportunity to develop innovation, as long as the regulations of the countries are adjusted to the new technologies’, said the leader of our company.

Under the pillars of Innovation, Technology and Sustainability, the BCR Agtech Forum was held on 17 and 18 September at the Rosario Stock Exchange, with the participation of the most important players in the agribusiness sector in Argentina. Ignacio Bartolomé, representing GDM, was one of the main participants of the panel of entrepreneurs ‘Innovation and Sustainability’, together with Juan Lariguet (Corteva) and Sergio Fernández (John Deere).

The Congress aimed to deepen connections and strategic links with the Agbiotech ecosystem, share the latest trends in advanced technologies to improve agricultural efficiency and productivity, and discuss the development of sustainable practices to promote responsible agriculture. In his presentation, Bartolomé emphasised the pillars of GDM since its beginning and recalled that evolving is in the company’s DNA.

‘Our initial experience of innovation has nothing to do with computers or artificial intelligence, but in thinking outside the box and pushing with conviction, no matter how much others say it won’t work. This is how my father thought of bringing soybean materials of maturity 4 from the USA, believing that they could have a good productivity in Argentina. At that time it was questioned and today 65% of the soybeans produced in the country are maturity 4’, Ignacio recalled.

GDM’s CEO highlighted the importance of digitalization for the company to better position itself in the eyes of producers and described the intense work done in the field of gene editing. ‘There I see an opportunity to develop innovation and accelerate the process of discovering soybean genes that allow us to have a soybean with more oil content, more protein, that better withstands drought, that better captures photosynthesis and, thus, have more products quickly on the market, as long as the regulations of the countries are adjusted to new technologies,’ he added.
